Disney announces when Goosebumps: The Vanishing drops on Disney+
Goosebumps is coming back for Season 2 on Disney+ and we’ve got details on The Vanishing!
Disney+ (like many streamers) has had a bad habit of canceling some fun shows after just one season: Willow, American Born Chinese, Renegade Nell and even Star Wars: The Acolyte. So it says something that Goosebumps was renewed for a second season over more high-profile shows.
It helps the show has a built-in fanbase, based on the long-running young adult horror books by R.L. Stine. It focused on a pack of teens who are haunted by a twisted spirit that ties into a crime committed by their parents and integrating parts of several of the books. The show was a good success, earning a second season.
However, rather than bringing back the original cast, the series will take on an anthology approach. Thus, Season 2 has a brand new title and storyline, subtitled The Vanishing.
The plot has David Schwimmer, best known for Friends, playing Anthony Brewer, “a former botany professor who has immersed himself in science and mystery. He brings his kids to his former home of Gravesend, Brooklyn, where they make new friends and uncover a mysterious mystery linked to the disappearance of kids in 1994 (which was when Friends premiered).
"Goosebumps: The Vanishing begins when twins Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin Brewer (Sam McCarthy) are sent to spend a summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn, with their divorced dad. A threat is stirring, and they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends — Alex (Francesca Noel), CJ (Elijah M. Cooper) and Frankie (Galilea La Salvia) — find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994."
The show will take elements of several classic Goosebumps tales such as “Stay Out of the Basement,” “The Haunted Car,” “Monster Blood,” “The Girl Who Cried Monster,” “The Ghost Next Door” and “Welcome to Camp Nightmare.” The cast also includes Ana Ortiz as Jen, “a dedicated police detective who remains rooted in her Brooklyn neighborhood after experiencing a tragic event that involved her friends in adolescence.”
The show will have a big premiere as all eight episodes will drop on Disney+ on Friday, January 10. There are still details coming, such as a trailer, but it looks like Goosebumps is ready to go back to scaring folks silly in 2025.
