Disney has a way of keeping things in the family as it’s not uncommon for the studio to team up with actors they’ve previously worked with across their various brands. Throughout the Disney branded projects you’ll see many familiar faces crossing over from the worlds of Marvel, Star Wars, Disney Animation, and Pixar with the studio often tapping actors who have brought success in past projects to help lead new movies and shows.
So perhaps for that reason, it will likely come as no surprise to fans that Disney is apparently set to team up with two of the biggest stars in the MCU for a pair of upcoming projects that will see the Marvel alums taking on a pair of iconic Disney animated characters!
Kathryn Hahn being eyed for role of Mother Gothel in live-action Tangled movie
Let’s start with the first of the two new rumors from trusted insider Daniel RPK. According to a new report from Daniel RPK, Disney is currently eyeing Agatha All Along star Kathryn Hahn to play Mother Gothel in a new live-action Tangled movie which would reimagine the beloved 2010 animated film.
Little is known about the project, but is anyone honestly surprised to know that Hahn is at the top of Disney’s list of actresses to play Mother Gothel? Hahn earned rave reviews for her performances in both WandaVision and its spinoff Agatha All Along, and would undoubtedly deliver an equally standout performance as Tangled’s devious and dramatic villain.
And can you imagine how incredible Hahn’s rendition of “Mother Knows Best” would be! Just imagine a chilling ballad in the vein of “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” which we still haven’t been able to get out of our head since the release of Agatha All Along.
Of course, these are just rumors at the moment and Disney has yet to give the green light to the live-action project but this is most certainly one rumor we’d love to see come to fruition and it’s going to be hard to think of anyone better than Hahn to play Mother Gothel!
As for that other Marvel star Disney is looking to team up with again?
Chris Hemsworth rumored to play Prince Charming with a major twist
It seems Chris Hemsworth is gearing up to take on one of the most charming characters in the Disney vault as he trades in Thor’s hammer for a Glass Slipper. Reports have been swirling for months that Hemsworth was being eyed to play Prince Charming and it looks like the original Avenger is indeed going to be taking on Disney’s timeless Prince… just not in the way you might expect.
Insider Daniel RPK is reporting that Hemsworth will indeed be playing Prince Charming in a new Disney live-action project, but this is not going to be simply a Prince Charming origin tale or retelling of Cinderella. The plan instead seems to be for Hemsworth to play a version of Prince Charming who is quite literally drawn to life by a Disney animator.
Per the report, the Prince Charming movie will see Daisy Edgar-Jones playing a Disney animator whose Prince Charming drawing comes to life… which is sort of giving us Hot Frosty vibes but Disney.
Honestly, we’re sort of in love with this concept as it would be such a run take on the classic character and it seems to hint the film would very much lean into the rom-com genre which we know Disney has mastered as evident best in Enchanted. Plus, the idea of getting to see Hemsworth tap into his comedic chops by playing a version of the character who has been drawn to life and likely give us shades of Giselle as he navigates the real world has us very interested in the project and excited to see what Disney whips up!
