Growing up, one of my favorite memories as a child was going to Disney World and experiencing it "snow" on Main Street, U.S.A. As a born and raised Floridian, I had never actually experienced real snow, so these magical soapy suds were the closest I had.

With the lights and decorations lining Main Street, U.S.A., the added snow effect was the magical finishing touch. It was an incredible experience, and I wish every child got to experience.

Unfortunately, Disney has found a way to profit off this experience.

Does it still snow at Magic Kingdom during the holidays?

While it technically does still snow on Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom, Disney not locks it behind its paid ticketed event. In order to see snow fall now during the holidays at Walt Disney World, you must attend Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

This is an exclusive ticketed event filled with festive fun and excitement that takes place on select evenings in November and December. It features special parades, staged shows, treats and, yes, snowfall. It also comes with a hefty price: tickets that range in price from $179 to $219.

So yes, it still does snow on Main Street at Magic Kingdom during the holiday season, but only during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. So if you want this magical experience I had for free growing up, it's going to now cost you.

Snowfall typically occurs at various parts throughout the night, but the best time to catch it is during Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade and Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks Show.

Where to see snow for free at Walt Disney World

If your heart is set on seeing snow at Walt Disney World, there is a free option — at least there has been in the past. Disney Springs typically has "snowfall" in the Town Center area. This typically happens between 6 and 10 p.m.

At Hollywood Studios, there's also the Sunset Seasons Greetings show. This is a nightly spectacular in which the Hollywood Tower Hotel is transformed with holiday projects. In the past it has snowed on Sunset Boulevard during this show, but now that the park hosts Disney Jollywood Nights, they may also gatekeep the snowfall.
