The Black Hole (1979)

Anyone can count on Disney on creating hidden science fiction gems and seeing them grow into reliable classics. One of them is The Black Hole, once the most expensive project that Disney ever produced.

As a product of the sci-fi boom in the 70’s, The Black Hole centers on a group of researchers who stumbled upon a vessel at a near distance from a dangerous celestial body.

What packs the horror underneath the film is its cast, specifically with the unnerving Anthony Perkins of Psycho fame. The other is the haunting visuals that may intentionally and unintentionally give off a suspenseful vibe. And the last ones are the terrifying sequences, including a murder. Every frame, a horrifying journey to behold.

Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983)

If Hocus Pocus brought the camp and the scares of Halloween, Something Wicked This Way Comes brought the pure terror of the season.

A mysterious carnival that came to town is what set of the journeys of boys Will and Jim, making them come face-to-face with the enigmatic Mr. Dark (Jonathan Pryce). And with him are terrifying concoctions to his unnerving circus, from his parade of freaks to the scary Dust Witch.

As a Ray Bradbury adaptation, the visuals captured his sharp style, even if some parts falter. One can look at its production history with horror-laden eyes.

Regardless, for a fresher take on phantasmagoria by the house of Mouse, Something Wicked This Way Comes works as a Halloween tradition.
