Continuing down the path of live-action remakes of beloved classics, Disney has released the first teaser trailer for Lilo & Stitch. The upcoming film is a live-action reimagining of Disney's 2002 animated classic about a Hawaiian girl and fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family.

Disney's live-action reimaginings of beloved animated classics are often met with mixed response, and almost always fail to live up to the original source material. The teaser trailer doesn't really offer us much so I can't really say how I feel about it one way or another. What it does give us is our first official look at "live-action" Stitch, the titular fugitive alien.

And while it's referred to as "live-action," it's really a CG-animated version of Stitch for obvious reasons. I mean, I guess he looks fine? They certainly did a good job mirroring his personality from the original movie as he wreaks havoc and destruction across a sand castle.

Honestly, what really caught my eye were the bystanders in the back., specifically the woman in the chair at around the 18 second mark. She looks fake, almost AI-generated or CG-like. She's just sitting there with no movement or reaction or anything. I know it's a teaser trailer so they probably didn't put much effort into the background, but it's all I noticed because it's so jarring.

Anyways, Lilo & Stitch, the live-action movie, is scheduled to hit theaters on Memorial Day (May 23) in 2025. The film is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind the animated feature film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. It stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Agudon as Nani, Billy Magnussen as Pleakley, Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles, and Chris Sanders as the voice of Stitch.

At least the marketing will be cute judging by the latest poster they shared.
