Marvel Mystic Mayhem: Everything we know about NetEase's new mobile game
Video game developer NetEase Games announced a new mobile game set in the Marvel universe. Marvel Mystic Mayhem is a free-to-play, team-based tactical role-playing game.
So what does that mean exactly?
Well, the announcement trailer didn't offer much in terms of actual gameplay; however, mechanics for these types of games typically involve strategically putting together a team of characters and then bringing them into combat — usually running through some sort of dungeon level.
That's pretty much how Marvel Mystic Mayhem's entire premise is set up. Nightmare, the malevolent lord of the Dream Dimension, has transformed the dreams of Super Heroes like Scarlet Witch, Moon Knight, and Captain America, turning their deepest fears into dangerous dungeons.
Doctor Strange and Sleepwalker have armed their allies with dream energy, which is just a fancy way to explain that you'll be forming a three-hero battle team and delving into these nightmares to avert the collapse of reality.
The plot actually sounds a bit more complicated than what I assume the game will be — which will likely mostly involve some sort of GACHA mechanics as you collect heroes and level them up to take on dungeons of varying difficulties.
The Marvel Mystic Mayhem website has revealed some of the super heroes you'll have available to you and it sounds like a good mix of popular and lesser-known Marvel characters. The website confirms the following characters: Spider-Man, Hulk, Sleepwalker, Moon Knight, Armor, Psylocke, Lady Bullseye, Misty Knight, Juggernaut, Man-Thing, Mister Negative, Doppelganger, Doctor Strange, IronMan, Scarlet Witch.
Presumably, you'll be able to acquire these heroes, either through grinding a form of in-game currency or buying them outright, and then leveling them up. As a tactical RPG, it's likely that these characters will be divided into some sort of class archetype (think tank, damage, and support). They'll also each likely have their own individual unique abilities and stats for you to upgrade.
Keep in mind, this is just my estimate. NetEase has officially divulged the specific game details or mechanics. It shouldn't be long now until we do get more information though. NetEase has already opened to the game up for pre-registration, which means some sort of early access alpha or beta could be on the way.
Marvel Mystic Mayhem has been announced for mobile devices only, so Apple and Android. But it's worth noting that NetEase also developed Marvel Rivals, which was also first announced for mobile before eventually being revealed for consoles and PC.
