Oscar Isaac has had his thumb in many fandom pies, from the Marvel Multiverse as Moon Knight to the Star Wars galaxy as Poe Dameron. However, his next role might be one of his most iconic characters yet. Although fans know him as Marvel's Moon Knight on Disney+, he's trading the cape for a crown.
Along with legendary performers such as Ben Kingsley, Mark Hamill, and Uma Thurman, Isaac joins a star-studded cast in King of Kings, an animated retelling of the Life of Christ from Angel Studios.
From Moon Knight to Messiah
Premiering this April, The King of Kings is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' Christ story told through an animated narrative. While this isn't exactly new territory for Angel Studios (formerly of The Chosen fame), but this might be the studio's most ambitious project yet, especially given how many Oscar-winners are attached to the project.
Adapting the story of Jesus Christ to the big screen is never an easy production, and there will always be a tough audience surrounding the lead role, but Isaac shared a very intimate look at the role on the film's social media pages. Take a look at what Issac had to say in the footage below!
Along with Jonathan Roumie's portrayal of Jesus for The Chosen, Isaac's take pushes his humor and humanity to the forefront, making Christ more approachable and compassionate (as he should be portrayed). Even so, Issac will undoubtedly bring something new to the table.
It should also be noted that this isn't the first time we've seen one of Disney's alum getting involved with a biblical epic, as former Disney animator Tom Bancroft shared his own animated Jesus film not but a few weeks ago. Perhaps we're getting ready to see an uptick in this genre?
The King of Kings hits theatres just in time for the Easter season, and it will undoubtedly draw a large crowd. In such tumultuous times facing our culture today, a few miracles could definitely go a long way.
The King of Kings premires April 11, 2025.
