Tickets for Moana 2 went on sale this week, and it looks like the sequel to 2016's animated blockbuster could be equally as successful — at least when it comes to box office ticket sales.

American ticketing company Fandango announced that Moana 2 broke the 2024 record for most day one ticketing presales for an animated feature. The fact that its first-day advance ticket sales exceed Inside Out 2, this year's highest-grossing movie, bodes well for Disney, which has struggled at the box office in recent years.

What's more, Moana 2 is the fourth-highest in first-day advance ticket sales for all 2024 movies, outperformed only by Deadpool & Wolverine, Wicked, and Dune: Part Two.

Can Moana 2 top Inside Out 2 at the box office?

Again, specific numbers have not been revealed, but record breaking ticket sales is never a bad thing. Moana 2 was already expected to be a major box office success, especially as it's a sequel to one of Walt Disney Animation's most popular and beloved movies. The fact that it has more first-day advance ticket sales than Inside Out 2, which did $1.6 billion at the box office, is certainly a good sign for the sequel.

Though there was initially some skepticism surrounding the film — mostly due to the fact that it was originally conceptualized as a Disney+ series and then reworked into a feature film for theaters — it seems that families are excited to revisit the island of Motunui and reunite with Moana, Maui and the rest of the gang.

Now ticket presales don't necessarily mean Moana 2 will break Inside Out 2's box office record, but it should have a strong opening weekend at the very least. And if it receives positive reviews and word of mouth, then it could have long-term success that carries the film well beyond its Thanksgiving weekend.

Moana 2 is slated to open in theaters on November 27th, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Do you plan on seeing it in theaters?
