The Princess and the Frog

PRINCE NAVEEN, TIANA
THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG - Down in New Orleans during the fabulous Jazz Age, young Princess Tiana searches for true love and comes face-to-face with snooty debutante Charlotte, ancient voodoo priestess Mama Odie and the evil Dr. Facilier. But with the help of her mother, a crooning alligator and other friends, Tiana's fairy-tale dreams may come true after all in this Oscar nominee. (Disney) PRINCE NAVEEN, TIANA /

With a brand-new log ride, Disney’s sadly overlooked 2009 film is coming back to prominence. A stage musical faces the challenge of how the main characters are frogs but if they can make The Lion King work, they can handle this too. If nothing else, seeing a big special effects-laden take on “Friends on the Other Side” would be a spectacular sight.

The show could also mix in the vibrant music of New Orleans and its wonderful styles of jazz, creole and more. It’d be an imaginative adventure and make for a sensational stage musical to finally give this project its due.

Coco

Coco already uses music as its key theme and backdrop for all the action. Thus, a stage musical version can only enhance it. It’s easy to imagine our title character entering the mysterious Land of the Dead and the costumes for the skeleton spirits can pop on stage. The movie offers plenty of fun music and clearly more can be created.

Like other movies adapted for the stage, the producers have a chance to build on things like Coco’s feelings with his father, grandmother and more on the world beyond life. As one of Pixar’s best-ever films, Coco would make a fine entry of Pixar into the Broadway world.
