Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster
Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster remains the most thrilling rollercoaster at Walt Disney World. However, it’s becoming more evident that this ride needs a tune-up. Unfortunately, younger audiences are less familiar with Aerosmith and it may be time to find a new artist. Plenty of great bands are out there, and many would love to attach themselves to a Disney attraction. Rumors about a retheme to other artists, like Queen or The Muppets, have existed for years, but nothing has happened.
In addition to a new soundtrack, Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster needs a new track. It’s not too bumpy or rickety, but this ride goes down too much. It recently reopened after a lengthy refurbishment, but issues happen often. It’s especially a problem at Hollywood Studios, which doesn’t have enough attractions. The ride needs to stay as it’s one of the few attractions for thrillseekers at Disney World, but it’s time for Aerosmith to take their final bow.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
Space Ranger Spin has been a staple for the Magic Kingdom since it opened in 1998. However, shooting dark rides have evolved since, and this ride is starting to feel like a fossil of its time. It’s hard to see where one is shooting out of the cluster of lasers, and the props and animatronics don’t react as well to being shot. It’s often hard to know how well one is doing until the score is shown at the end.
The Toy Story theme is also redundant as Toy Story Mania is over at Hollywood Studios. Toy Story Mania is vastly superior to this ride in many ways, and it does seem like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is reaching the end of its days with the lack of updates or refurbs. Tokyo Disneyland recently announced that Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters will be rethemed to Wreck-It Ralph, and that wouldn’t be a terrible idea for Magic Kingdom either. Even if it keeps the same theme, Disney could use Fix-It Felix’s help to move this ride into the future.
