8 reasons we're excited for the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie
7. The effects look great
Fans were naturally concerned seeing the beloved Stitch jumping from animated to CGI. We've all seen the horrors of making that work in various ways (The Lion King) and the fears were high he'd look terrible. Thankfully, Disney silenced those doubts with footage of Stitch at D23 and he looks perfect. They haven't tried to "upgrade" the design, they stuck to the animated version as closely as possible, and the effect is stunningly good. If the rest of the movie's FX match this level, we're in for a great time.
8. It won't be as hampered by music
What made Lilo & Stitch more unique among the classic Disney Renaissance pictures was that it wasn't a musical. The main songs were Elvis Presley and other classic rock n roll numbers, not original tunes. So the actors don't have to live up to expectations on the songs and the filmmakers are not distracted trying to "upgrade" the numbers as happens too many times in other Disney films. We might get a few more rock tunes in it and maybe an original song or two but this has always been more a regular comedy and should be great replicating that.
Put it all together and there's good reason to hope that Lilo & Stitch ends up being one of the better live-action adaptations of a Disney animated film to introduce the tale to a new generation.
