Deadpool and Wolverine hit theaters this weekend and the R-rated action comedy absolutely smashed box office records. The highly anticipated threequel, which marked Deadpool's first official appearance in the MCU under the Disney Marvel umbrella, opened to $438.8 million worldwide — the best R-rated box office debut of all time.

Domestically, the film took in $205 million, becoming just the ninth film in Hollywood history to have surpassed the $200 million milestone in its opening weekend.

Celebrating the news, stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman took to social media to recreate the iconic X-Men: The Animated Series "Sad Wolverine" meme. For those unfamiliar, the meme features a lovesick Logan lying down on his bed while looking at photo of Jean Grey.

Jackman, who has brought Wolverine to life on the big screen since the original X-Men movie in 2000, posted himself in the meme pose. But instead of a photo of Jean Grey, he's looking at a picture that says "#1 Movie in the World."

Reynolds obviously couldn't pass up the opportunity for a hilarious response, so he posted his own version of the meme. In his version, Wade Wilson is staring longingly at the Logan image.

Apparently, there's even more to celebrate. As of Monday, Deadpool and Wolverine set another bo office record. According to Deadline, the superhero blockbuster took in $21.5 million-plus on Monday at the domestic box office — the best Monday ever for an R-rated film, beating the original Deadpool's $19.7 million back in 2016.

The latest global numbers have not been released yet, but Deadpool and Wolverine figures to easily eclipse the $500 million mark and has a good chance of reaching $1 billion worldwide by the end of its theatrical run.

Deadpool and Wolverine is not only a commercial hit, but a critical one as well. The film is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 78% among Critics. While that's the lowest score of the trilogy of movies, it does have a whopping 97% Audience Score.

Unfortunately, for those waiting to catch the movie at home, the film's box office success might mean it will take longer for Deadpool and Wolverine to arrive on home streaming.
