With the release of Deadpool & Wolverine just days away, reviews for the highly anticipated threequel have started to drop. There's a lot riding on this one as Marvel has been in a bit of a rut lately. Can the Merc with a Mouth breathe some new life into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Let's see what the critics are saying!

With 177 reviews counted so far as of this writing, Deadpool & Wolverine sits at 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's actually the lowest score of the three films. 2016's Deadpool scored an 85% while its sequel, Deadpool 2, scored an 84%. So it's not that far off from the other films in the trilogy.

The critics consensus reads:

"Ryan Reynolds makes himself at home in the MCU with acerbic wit while Hugh Jackman provides an Adamantium backbone to proceedings in Deadpool & Wolverine, an irreverent romp with a surprising soft spot for a bygone era of superhero movies."

Deadpool & Wolverine marks the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson. So it's perhaps fitting that he brings new life to a universe that has suffered from superhero fatigue since Avengers: Endgame.

Although it sounds like the overall narrative leaves a bit to be desired, the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman more than makes up for it. After all, fans are finally getting to see Wolverine and Deadpool team up in a proper Marvel film, something we've been waiting on for decades.

The general consensus is that Deadpool & Wolverine is far from the perfect film. But it delivers on the brutal, bloody action, adult humor, inappropriate jokes, and general ridiculousness that comes with a movie starring the Merc with a Mouth.

If you're looking for a fun, summer popcorn flick, it sounds like Deadpool & Wolverine might be the one. While those already invested in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will likely have a more enjoyable time — especially as it weaves together the Fox, Marvel, and Disney universes — just about anyone can appreciate the action and jokes.

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
