Get ready for the return of one of the most underrated ways to get to the Magic Kingdom. After three years, Disney World will once more offer boat transportation across Bay Lake between Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds, and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

For decades, one of the best perks of staying at WDW’s Bay Lake resorts was a special boat shuttle taking guests right to the gates of the Magic Kingdom. It was much easier than taking the monorail and offered a faster way for those at Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge.

However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, the boat transportation was shut down. Even when WDW reopened, the boats remained closed, with bus service the only way for Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness guests to reach the Magic Kingdom and monorail the only way for Contemporary Resort guests.

Disney gave no exact reason for the remaining closures, with speculation it was for budgetary reasons. However, on October 1st, guests of those three resorts can finally use the boat shuttles to get across Bay Lake.

Service has been going on for a while from the Grand Floridian and Polynesian Resorts but this weekend will open it for the other three Magic Kingdom resorts. This is wonderful news for Disney guests who enjoy the lovely boat rides taking in the scenery around them and one of the more underrated ways to get to the Magic Kingdom.

Service will begin on October 1, 2023 and so guests of the Magic Kingdom resorts can once more hear “all aboard” for this delightful journey.
