Disney's card game Lorcana - What's with the ink?
By Josh Rendall
I have been enjoying playing the starter decks from the First Chapter of Lorcana with my family. We have a great time with the cards, reenacting scenes from our favorite movies, interacting various characters throughout the game, and trying to be the first to 20 lore to win the game.
Even my younger children are able to play the game with ease, and I would attribute that to the main energy of the game - ink. What makes the ink such an effective option for energy in Lorcana? Let's take a look.
First off, the best part of using ink is that there's only ink! That's right... Only one type of energy! This has helped my family so much when learning to play because it's not complicated. Use a card that has the ink icon, flip the card over, and know it's part of your inkwell for the game.
The other part about ink that I have enjoyed is that you don't really lose the ink each round. I know it's possible for your opponent to possibly get rid of some of your ink with their cards, but in general, you can exhaust and reuse the energy each turn. This allows the game to keep moving and not be stagnant.
Finally, the ink fits the theme so well! I was curious when Lorcana announced how the idea of a collectible card game would work in the realm of Disney, and the inkwell idea is perfect! It feels exactly like the energy type that would be needed in a game like this. Now... If I could only get enough ink to get the Beast out there to win the game! Maybe next time.
