I Am Groot: Everything we know about Season 2 of Marvel's adorable Baby Groot shorts
In just a few short days, Baby Groot will return to Disney Plus for another round of misadventures. I Am Groot Season 2 is set to debut on the streaming service on September 6. Here's everything to know about the sophomore season of shorts that follow everyone's favorite sentient baby tree.
What is I Am Groot?
I Am Groot first debuted on Disney+ last year. The first season featured five shorts that followed Baby Groot on various adventures set between the events of Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's mid-credits scenes. It was the perfect format for Marvel Studios to revisit the fan-favorite character and explore the "universe of stories to tell" with him as a toddler.
Each five-minute short was a self-contained story that saw Baby Groot get into all sorts of hilarious mischief and adventure. The series was met with praise from critics and fans alike.
What do we know about I Am Groot Season 2
Marvel Studios released the first trailer for I Am Groot a few weeks ago. Season 2 will, once again, be comprised of five CG-animated shorts following Baby Groot, only this time he'll be exploring the universe and beyond while aboard the Guardians’ spaceships. Naturally, we can expect Baby Groot to find himself in all sorts of mischievous hijinks as he encounters new and colorful creatures and environments.
The trailer doesn't offer much in terms of specifics, but we can see the humor will be on full display. It's been confirmed that Season 2 of I Am Groot will only fun for 15 minutes total, making it the shortest MCU project to date.
Vin Diesel is, again, voicing the beloved character, while Kirsten Lepore, writer/director of season one, returns in the same capacity for season two.
Where does I Am Groot S2 fit in the MCU and Guardians of the Galaxy timeline?
As I Am Groot Season 2 continues the adventure of Baby Groot, it remains set between the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. This would mean it's set before the most recent GotG Vol. 3 film that just recently hit theaters.
