Indiana Jones: Dial of Destiny gets long-awaited Disney+ premiere date
Disney+ viewers finally know when it’ll be time to watch the conclusion of the Indiana Jones saga as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has set a release date for the streamer.
After fifteen years, Harrison Ford returned to play the iconic archaeologist in one last great adventure. The film has Indy on a quest that begins in World War II (aided by impressive CGI de-aging Ford to look like he did in the 1990s) to 1969 amid the space race.
Indy is recruited by his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) to locate the titular Dial, an artifact that can change the course of history. Indy clashes with Nazi Jurgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) who wants to use the Dial to help Germany win the war.
The movie, directed by James Mangold, had a lot of hype. However, the film (whose budget was reportedly over $300 million) debuted to only $60.3 million and a final global box office of $383.9 million, the lowest take of the saga and sadly a big bomb.
That may be why Disney has waited much longer than usual for the movie to go from theatrical to streaming. Rather than the usual 90 days, Disney waited over five months for the release. Right now, Dial of Destiny is set to premiere on December 1st on Disney+. That’s four days before its release on Blu-Ray.
Besides the film, there will also be Timeless Heroes, a feature-length documentary directed by Laurent Bouzereau that goes in-depth on the film’s production, the legacy of Indy, and never-before-seen footage from the set with the cast.
While Dial of Destiny wasn’t the epic hit fans expected, it can still be enjoyed on Disney+ in December to be a fine send-off to one of the most beloved movie heroes of all time.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premieres on Disney+ on Friday, December 1.
