Inside Out 2 has passed Frozen at the worldwide box office, making it the 3rd highest-grossing film of all time. The latest Pixar sequel is currently dominating the box office, reaching $1.3 billion worldwide. It recently became the highest-grossing Pixar film of all time, Incredibles 2, which grossed $1.24 billion in 2018.

While Inside Out 2 was expected to be a hit, it's surpassing all expectations. Its record-setting box office is taking over the animation charts and is starting to topple some of Disney's biggest hits, including Frozen. Frozen has become a global sensation, and the 2013 film grossed $1.28 billion. However, Pixar's latest still has to beat the 2019 sequel, Frozen II, which is currently the highest-grossing animated film of all time.

Frozen II grossed $1.45 billion worldwide, so Inside Out 2 still has work to do before it reaches that landmark. It also has to climb over 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which reached $1.36 billion globally. It will be a challenge for Inside Out 2 to reach the top of the animated box office charts, but it is still possible.

Besides Despicable Me 4, there aren't any major family releases for a while, so families could continue to take their kids to Inside Out while it is in theaters. The minions didn't slow down Pixar much as the film still added $33 million to its total over the July 4th weekend. The real challenge will be Deadpool & Wolverine, the upcoming Marvel Studios release.

While the MCU's next film is rated R, most people will be flocking to theaters to see Deadpool's next film, and it could hurt Inside Out's run following its release. Deadpool & Wolverine doesn't release until July 26th, so Inside Out 2 does have time to close the gap between itself and Frozen II. If the film does pass Frozen II, it will be a much needed win for both Disney and Pixar.
