Marvel games are about to showcase a fantastic untold team-up in the new Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra game! See the trailer showing why Captain America and Black Panther are facing off in Nazi Germany!

Marvel video games have had their ups and downs over the years. Some of the best successes aren’t from the main Marvel Games brand but rather from Sony’s acclaimed Spider-Man series. 2020’s The Avengers was criticized for poor gameplay, although 2021’s Guardians of the Galaxy was a solid success. There are also plans for big ones like a Wolverine game.

Now, after a few years of development comes Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. The project was announced in 2022, coming from Skydance Entertainment and headed up by Amy Henning, a key creator for the smash hit Uncharted games. The game has mostly been quiet since due to development but at last a launch trailer unveils the great storyline.

As the title suggests, this is 1943 in the Marvel Universe, where Hydra is a key part of the Axis war effort. Steve Rogers is still new to his role as Captain America, taking it to the Nazis. The trailer shows his famous shield covered in scratches, courtesy of the Black Panther. But this isn’t T’Challa but rather his grandfather, Azzuri.

Wakanda is still keeping its advanced technology secret from the world at this time so Cap has no idea who this “cat man” is. The game looks to be a mix of combat and adventure and similarities to the Uncharted games, with both heroes scaling the rooftops of Paris and other areas in occupied Europe.

The game will have a fun dynamic that, at various points, gamers can control Cap, Panther, Howling Commandos member Gabriel Jones, and Nanli, a Wakanda spy embedded in Paris. The trailer culminates in Cap and Panther facing off and ready for the classic misunderstanding superhero fight.

The storyline appears to be inspired by the mini-series Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers, which featured Steve and Azzuri meeting and how Cap got his special vibranium shield. It appears, like other recent Marvel games, this will not be in the MCU itself but an alternate timeline, yet still elements such as the focus being on stopping Hydra with all the characters helping.

The game is set for release in 2025 although obviously no date yet. However, if the gameplay is half as exciting as the trailer, this should be a fantastic addition to the Marvel video game library.
