Jungle Cruise

The most recent movie based on a Disney park ride is Jungle Cruise. The earliest reports of a movie based on Jungle Cruise date back to 2004, and were likely the result of the sudden success of Pirates of the Caribbean meaning that other movies based on theme park rides were being looked into.

The movie went through several different developments, starting and stalling out again and again. While it looked like the project had stalled out in 2011, in 2015, it was announced that Jungle Cruise was back in active production with Dwayne Johnson being cast in the lead.

The reviews were much kinder to Jungle Cruise than most of the other movies based on Disney rides, and even some of the harsher reviews still admitted that Jungle Cruise was the best movie based on a ride since the first Pirates of The Caribbean. It seems that the movie did well enough that Disney is currently working on a sequel, and while a release date has not yet been announced, both Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt have stated that they expect to return for the eventual sequel.
