Pixar's Inside Out 2 arrives on digital this month, but when will it come to Disney+?
After an incredible box office run that saw Inside Out 2 become the highest-grossing animated film of all time and the biggest movie of the year, the beloved Pixar sequel is now headed for digital release. The critically acclaimed movie will first land on paid-video on-demand (PVOD) before its physical release a few weeks later.
Inside Out 2 will be available to purchase or rent on digital retailers, such as Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home on August 20th. This means you'll be able to stream it, although it should be noted that this is different than being able to watch it for free in an included subscription service, such as Disney+.
When will Inside Out 2 start streaming on Disney+?
Unfortunately, Disney has not yet announced a premiere date for Inside Out 2 on Disney+. But now that we have a digital release date, we can do a better job estimating at when it could arrive on the streaming platform.
Looking at past Disney releases, its taken anywhere from 47 days (Lightyear) to 89 days (Elemental) for a movie to go from theaters to Disney+. Of course, a big factor that determines the time is how well the movie has done in theaters.
Inside Out 2 was a massive success, which explains why we've had to wait a bit longer. However, with the film's digital release on August 20th and its physical media release set for September 10, it means we can probably see Inside Out 2 come to Disney+ in September or October 2024.
Inside Out 2 coming to 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD
For those who prefer tangible items and enjoy looking at the box art of a physical case, Inside Out 2 will also be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray DVD starting September 10, 2024.
The 4K Blu-ray will be available in a Limited-Edition Colectible SteelBook release featuring some gorgeous artwork of all of Riley's emotions.
The physical release will also include a slew of bonus features, including a documentary that discusses the process of creating Riley's new emotions Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui and Envy. Hear from the creators as they explain how they narrowed them down from a long list of possible emotions, as well as their design, animation and voicing.
Other bonus features include multiple deleted scenes and a visual commentary featuring a group of central creatives as they watch and discuss the scene "The Vault."
Inside Out 2 was officially Certified-Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 91% score on the Tomatometer and a more impressive 95% Audience Score. Its historic box office run established Inside Out 2 as Pixar's highest-grossing movie of all time globally, surpassing Frozen II with a worldwide tally of $1.6 billion.
