I'm not huge into mobile games, but Disney Mirrorverse was one that I played for quite a while when it first launched. Developed by Kabam, the mobile role-playing game was set in a parallel universe, called the "Mirrorverse," where characters and locations from Wat Disney Pictures' films have been transformed by dark and light magic.

There's all sorts of lore and narrative involved which feels a bit silly to spend time explaining now because Kabam has announced that Disney Mirrorverse is shutting down. The developer confirmed that the game will be sunset for both iOS and Android, with all servers shutting down on December 16, 2024.

But for all intents and purposes, the game is already dead for those who don't already have it downloaded. Disney Mirrorverse has already been removed from app storefronts, making it impossible to download for anyone who doesn't already have it.

If you do have the game installed already, you can continue playing for the time being. In fact, Kabam encourages you to finish out the storyline with new content that is planned to release over the coming weeks. The developer confirmed it will wrap-up the Mirrorverse storyline, so at least there will be some closer for fans who have invested years into the game.

"Our sincere thanks to you, our amazing community of players, who have made this journey unforgettable," the developer sadi in a statement. "Your support and passionate dedication to the game is truly inspiring to our team. Being able to create this game, and evolving beloved characters and worlds in new and imaginative ways has been a labor of love and our great honor."

Disney Mirrorverse was your typical run-of-the-mill action role-playing game. It utilized gacha mechanics to assemble a roster of "evolved and amplified versions of clsasic Disney and Pixar characters." You could take these characters into battle with you with combat performed in real time.

The best part about the game, though, was probably the imaginative redesigns and re-imaginings of some of Disney's most iconic characters. Other than that, it was a pretty straight forward mobile action game. I can't say I'm surprised to see a free-to-play mobile game sunset, as these are pretty much a dime a dozen. I'm sure it won't be long before another Disney-themed mobile game takes its place.
