The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been laid out but many wonder if we will ever see Robert Downey, Jr. back in that world.

Downey, Jr. nearly single-handedly created the MCU. Iron Man was and still is an incredible cinematic feature. RDJ embodied the character perhaps more than any other MCU actor. Following his final film in Avengers: Endgame, the MCU and its quest to stay relevant hasn't quite gone the way Disney has wanted.

There have always been questions as to whether or not RDJ would want to play that iconic role again. Now we have an answer.

"“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey Jr. stated. “That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”"

Robert Downey, Jr. created a character that fits within the opinions of "No one could ever play that role again". He was that superior. Yes, as he said, that role chose him.

Naturally, fans would love to know how he could return. The MCU has been playing with alternate universes and timelines. They have time-traveled and they have basically thrown out any sci-fi situation that completely changes theoretical restrictions.

RDJ doesn't even have to be an alternate-universe version of himself. Kevin Feige could easily find a supernatural way to bring him back from the dark heroic death he suffered. What if during the return for the "blip" it was an alternate universe Iron Man that switched places with him?

Perhaps in an alternate universe, Tony Stark lost Pepper Pots and now sees an opportunity to be with her in his timeline. There are as many opportunities to bring back the Tony Stark Iron Man but the real question was always would RDJ want to be a part of that? Now, we know he would.
