There are currently four Disney World parks but is that potentially going to change in the future?

Over the years there has been a lot of speculation that at some point a 5th gate (5th park) would eventually be made. Over those same years, Disney has said nothing about it or even suggested it.

Disney's biggest problem over the last year has been its legal battle with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and DeSantis believes that a 5th gate could eventually come to Disney World.

Speaking to the media in regards to the legal issues with Disney coming to an end, DeSantis spoke about the new Epic Universe coming to Universal Studios. That park will soon open and will be the largest Universal park by far. DeSantis said, "I think it's just going to be a huge game changer," in reference to Epic Universe.

He then went on to say that he believed Disney would "Want to answer that and keep up with the competition." He would later say, "I got to think Disney would have an interest and maybe, maybe offering another one." He said that the current district will be ready to negotiate that should it happen and that it would be good for Florida.

DeSantis also backed off a lot of his tough stance talk against Disney Orlando saying the feud was mostly with the Burbank offices in California and not the Orlando parks.

Disney hasn't opened a new park since 1998 when Animal Kingdom became the 4th park at Disney World. That came almost 10 years after Hollywood Studios which at the time was named Disney MGM Studios.
