5 most tear-jerking moments in a Disney movie
4. Widow Tweed Gives Up Todd
The Fox and the Hound is arguably Disney’s most underrated animated feature. The tale of the friendship between two animals who are supposed to be enemies has some great emotional moments as they go from friends to rivals and back. Yet a stunning scene is when, knowing she can’t protect fox Tod from hunter Amos, the Widow Tweed releases him into the wild.
The scene is jarring as Tod at first thinks this is another fun adventure before slowly realizing what’s happening. He tries to go to Tweed, who only shakes her head before heading back to her car. Adding to it is the haunting song “Goodbye May Seem Forever,” as Tweed’s inner thoughts show the pain of having to do this. It’s a truly heartbreaking moment to mark this Disney effort.
