Shuttered since Covid-19 ravaged the world, The Voyage of the Little Mermaid has remained an empty building on the corner of Animation Courtyard at Hollywood Studios. It won't be much longer.
According to a new report, The Little Mermaid is getting a new lease in it's original location and will return for guests in the fall of 2024.
The news comes from Joey McElroy of Disney Parks Blog, Disney's official parks blog.
McElroy is terming it a "reimagined" theatrical producion. The Little Mermaid - A Musical Adventure apparently is already going through construction inside.
For those who were a fan of the original live-action show, a return is finally great to hear as many have been waiting several year for it to come back. The empty building on the left side of Animation Courtyard will once again be alive from under the sea!
The big question is what will the new show be? It will be a musical journey and some have wondered if maybe a little more like a sing-along rather than a scene by scene rendering. The new release calls it an "inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic", so will this be based off the original animated film or will this be more inline with the new live-action film?
I don't think anyone will care one way or the other, just glad that it coming back finally.
Disney has given fans a quick glimpse of what cand be expected with this concept art that was released as part of the announcment.
No date has been officially listed as an opening but the fall seems logical given that the building won't have to be built. It will also be interesting to see when the facade changes and when the new signage will make an appearance.
