The worst "live action" remakes of Disney classic movies
By Brian Miller
Our final entry on this list isn't so much a remake as much as taking the name from an animated Disney classic. The Sorcerer's Apprentice was just bad.
Through all the CGI work, the Sorcerer was just bad. In many ways, this film tried to stand apart from its animated counterpart. It took it into a new direction which should have helped it but in fact, the over the top acting of Nicolas Cage wasn't a good idea.
The film hit theaters in 2010 and hardly made a ripple over the weekend. Worldwide the film grossed $215 million but in the U.S. and Canada the film only grossed around $63 million.
Disney apparently hasn't learned much from their failures and the ole adage "If it first you don't succeed, try and try again" isn't something they are thinking about. In the next few years, several new remakes will hit either Disney+ or the theaters. Some of them make no sense.
Bambi, Lilo, and Stitch, and a prequel to The Lions King titled Mufasa: The Lion King will be out. None of those three really need to be made but do we need another princess turned real life? Disney seems to think so as they are making Snow White, sans the dwarfs apparently.
Disney will also be adding a live-action Moana to the lineup. The incredibly fun original was released in 2016 and hasn't had time to become a classic yet.
