Wizards of Waverly Place will soon hit the small screen again as it is being reported that a sequel to the hit Disney series has been greenlit.

The big question is will the stars of the original mid-2000s series return and will it be a true sequel or a new entry altogether?

The answer is YES! Gomez and Henrie will both serve as Executive Producers on the new series with Gomez being a guest star and Russo being a regular member of the cast, according to Comicbook.com.

Disney released a couple of images from the series that will begin production in April.

The series was a popular hit for Disney during its run in the 2000s and helped propel Selena Gomez into the public eye. It was a wholesome show that surrounded a family of blessed "wizards" that navigated their world mixed with similar gifts and normals.

Disney describes the new series as an adult Justin Russo, played by Henrie, who has given up the wizarding world for a normal mortal life with his family until his sister Alex, Gomez, brings what appears to be her child Billie to him for help. Justin brushes off his wands and re-enters the world to help mentor the gifted child.

The series will premiere both on Disney+ and on the Disney Channel. It ran for six seasons from 2017-2012.

It will be interesting to see how many of those who watched the series will return to watch it again or encourage their own children to do so. The show's target audience was pre-tween and early teens. Now, 12 years later those kids are in their mid-20s.
