Re-themed Rockin Rollercoaster will be a hit if Disney includes these Muppet favorites
By Brian Miller
Up until recently, Hollywood Studios had a rock 'n roll theme to part of the park. That is going away as Disney announced last month that the Rock 'N Rollercoaster was being re-themed.
Gone are the Aerosmith backstage passes that fans were given when they made it to the final staging area before heading into the alley to get whisked away to the concert. It was loud, fast, and frankly, outdated. Now, it is getting a Muppet-makeover.
I have been banging my fists on the table for a long time for the removal of Muppet Vision 3D from the other side of the park so when Disney announced that it was permanently going away I was finally able to give my hands a much needed rest. To be clear, I love The Muppets, I just didn't like that particular show at all.
Monsters, Inc. will take over that space and I'm still not sure how I feel about that either but I'm good with The Muppets taking over Rock'n, provided they do one thing. Disney absolutely has to include Statler and Waldorf, the two wise-cracking old men that was the best part of Muppets 3D.
The ride itself isn't going to change. It will still be a bullet shot out of a gun start with twists, turns, and barrel rolls. The music will change and so will the ride decor and this is where Disney can hit a home run and play homage to the original ride.
The addition of Statler and Waldorf would change the ride for the better.
Nothing would be better than two geezers at the end of the attraction as you head to the debarkation gate, yelling something like, "Wow, that was fast. Can't believe they waited that long in the line!" Or perhaps, "At least you didn't sit through that 3D show!", "Yeah, bring back Aerosmith!"
To me, nothing would make that ride more epic, give a nod to Hollywood's own history, the rides history, and give The Muppet fans something to laugh at when they get off. If they want to make it even better, have them say different things after every ride, making the next spin on the coaster a little different, as they did with the music tracks at Guardians of the Galaxy.
