In a surprising but welcomed movie, Disney and Lucasfilm have announced Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will be debuting earlier than originally announced. The highly anticipated series was originally supposed to debut on December 3rd; however, it will now release with a two-episode premiere on December 2nd.
Disney is calling the move an "early gift for fans (like you!) who literally can’t wait to meet this new squad." It's possible, however, that it could have something to do with the newly announced theatrical release!
While the series will be airing on Disney+, 25 theaters across the United States will be hosting a special two-episode screening on December 2nd. The special screening is being offered through Fandango with fans able to snag tickets for free.
Many of the screenings are already sold out, which means the rest of us will just have to enjoy the two-episode premiere from the comfort of our couch. Skeleton Crew will arrive on Disney+ with a two-episode premiere on December 2nd at 6:00 p.m. PT. New episodes will continue to air weekly every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. PT beginning December 10th.
Created by Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts and screenwriter Chris Ford, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has drawn comparisons to the classic coming-of-age adventure stories like The Goonies and E.T. The vibe of the series — at least based on early trailers and previews — has been 80's era Amblin Entertainment movies.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew "follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy, crossing paths with the likes of Jod Na Nawood, the mysterious character played by Law," the synopsis reads. "Finding their way home—and meeting unlikely allies and enemies—will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined."
The first episode of the series was directed by Jon Watts, while Episode 2 was helmed by David Lowery. The season will consist of eight episodes in total.
