The wait is almost over. We have now entered the week of the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, coming to theaters on May 23. Fans and moviegoers of different generations will come together to watch the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch.
As fans and moviegoers who watched the beloved 2002 film, it’s time to reminisce and celebrate the original movie. Who was your favorite character? What was your favorite scene?
Fans of Lilo & Stitch might have even enjoyed him on his very own ride, Stitch's Great Escape at Magic Kingdom.
There’s no denying that many fans have a warm place in their hearts for Stitch, and Disney has even recognized his insane marketability. Just look at what happened during the 2025 Super Bowl.
Disney intensely played up his mischievous side in the theatrical teasers for the original Lilo & Stitch, where Stitch ironically interrupted several scenes of iconic Disney films. The little blue furball simply can't be contained. With that being said, here are 10 unforgettable moments why we always love Stitch.
1. Stitch’s first word was a swear!
At the council meeting, the Grand Councilwoman asks Stitch to show a sign that there is something good inside him. The word—or extraterrestrial phrase—he uses causes several other galactic creatures to faint.
2.Stitch disguised himself as a dog in order to fit in
After being hit by a truck and waking up in an animal shelter, Stitch disguised himself as a dog. He saw a sign with a dog on the shelter wall and tried his best to act like one, which eventually led to him being adopted.
3. Stitch attempts to share some cake with Lilo
Stitch is having trouble assimilating on planet Earth as an alien from the extraterrestrial world. When Nani gives Lilo some cake for dessert, Stitch eats the whole slice in one bite. When Lilo gets angry, he spits it back up and tries to recreate the cake that Nani first gave to Lilo.
At this point, the scene emphasizes Stitch's struggle to comprehend human emotions and societal rules. This scene highlights how Stitch is both learning and developing as he grows an emotional connection with Lilo.
4.Stitch reconstructs the scene he saw in a movie of destroying a city
Earlier in the day, Stitch saw a movie through a shop window of a giant spider destroying a city. Jumba Jookiba, his creator, said the only thing Stitch is known for — or knows how to do is destroy. At bedtime with Lilo, Stitch recreates a city and the scene of him destroying it, just like in the movie he saw.
5. Stitch learns about the story of the ugly duckling
Stitch learns about The Ugly Duckling from Lilo, who has a book about the story. Throughout the movie, Stitch comes to understand that he represents the ugly duckling because he is lost and can’t relate to anyone, since he is an extraterrestrial creature designed for destruction.
6. Stitch threw a book at Mr. Bubbles
In this hilarious scene, when Agent Bubbles knocks on the door of Lilo and Nani’s house, Stitch growls since he doesn’t know who he is and throws a book at Mr. Bubbles, which shatters one of the lenses of his sunglasses. This scene reveals how protective Stitch is of the family he has found.
Moments like this are meaningful because they show the audience that even though Stitch is still figuring out how to assimilate himself, he is trying his best—and that's what makes his growth as a character hit home for the viewers.
7. Stitch attempts to be a model citizen
After Agent Bubbles tells Lilo that Stitch must become a model citizen, she teaches him through Elvis as an example. Through this, Stitch learns about true love, how to play the guitar, and how to dance.
Lilo, who is a fan of Elvis, uses his music and persona as guidance for Stitch. This sequence provides not only humor and energy to the story, but also reveals Lilo's creative thinking and her unique efforts to connect Stitch with humanity.
8. Stitch becomes a model citizen
Eventually, Stitch succeeds in becoming a model citizen by embodying Elvis. Wearing his Elvis costume, Stitch fully transforms into the iconic American singer — until someone takes a picture of him, drawing a crowd and causing chaos.
Despite this scene that results in chaos, the audience sees Stitch beginning to unravel his destructive personality when he fully embraces his Elvis perona expressing his energy in a positive way instead of taking pleasure in destruction.
9. Stitch befriends the frog
When battling Captain Gantu to bring back Lilo, a frog alerts the unconscious Stitch that Gantu is about to fire at him. Once the frog alerts him, Stitch regains consciousness and begins fighting back. Earlier in the film, the frog was introduced when Stitch crash-landed on Earth.
This playful scene is clever as it was unexpected that the same frog that Stitch met when he crashed on Earth would return later on in the film. It's always nice to see things go full circle.
10. Stitch learns that ohana means family
Stitch learns that "ohana" means family — and that nobody gets left behind. When he rescues Lilo, he says, "Nobody gets left behind," and explains to the Grand Councilwoman that Lilo, David, and Nani are his family, and that he found his family all on his own.
As people gear up to watch the live-remake of Lilo & Stitch, it is important to have a good understanding of the orginal film. Whether you are 20, 30, 50 or a child, Lilo & Stitch is a film everyone should enjoy. The audience should be excited to see Stitch's character grow and change throughout this film.
Lilo & Stitch premieres May 23, 2025.
