Agatha All Along wrapped up its first season on Disney+ and the ending paves the way for possibly more witchy adventures!

Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for Agatha All Along Season 1

The series followed Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), who regained her memories and was on a search for power. She was aided by Teen (Joe Locke) and gathering a coven of witches in Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), Alice (Ali Ahn), Lilia (Patti LuPone) and quirky neighbor Sharon (Debra Jo Rupp). Agatha led them on a journey along the legendary Witch's Road, which supposedly grants any witch what they desire.

Over the course of the season, one by one, the other coven members were killed off as the group was hunted by Rio (Aubrey Plaza), who turned out to be Death itself…and Agatha’s ex-girlfriend. Yep.

The last episodes brought in several huge revelations that not only changed the series but also set the stage for further adventures in the MCU.

Who is Teen?

As many fans suspected, Teen turned out to be Billy Maximoff, one of the twin sons created by Wanda Maximoff in WandaVision. When the Hex faded and Billy was lost, his spirit ended up in the body of William Kaplan when the teenager was killed in a car accident. Billy has been hoping to find his twin brother Tommy and coming to Agatha for help.

During the adventure, Billy comes into his powers, complete with a costume to become the spitting image of his comic book character, Wiccan. Agatha had been making a deal with Rio/Death to sacrifice Billy (who technically shouldn’t even exist) so Agatha could survive. Wiccan managed to save Jennifer’s life while in a clash, but Agatha ended up sacrificing herself (with a kiss) to save Billy. Which led to another revelation.

The truth behind the Witch’s Road

It turns out the Witch’s Road never really existed before. Back in the 18th century, Agatha gave birth to a son, Nicholas, despite Rio/Death saying the child shouldn’t have lived. Agatha raised her son and sang a ditty about a witch’s road together, adding lyrics as it went on. She traveled to towns where she used Nicholas to lure in witches for her to kill.

Eventually, Death came for Nicholas, and Agatha sang that song to his grave. Another witch met her to ask about the Witch’s Road as the legend of it had grown. Seizing the opportunity, Agatha told the witch they needed a coven first. Once gathered, they sang the song and when it didn’t open a non-existent road, Agatha goaded the witches into attacking her so she’d absorb their power and kill them.

Thus, the Witch’s Road was nothing but a con Agatha used over the centuries, killing countless witches to keep her own youth and powers. She was about to do it to the coven in Episode 2, but the Road suddenly came to be thanks to Billy’s own magical powers. It was his version of the Hex manifesting itself. It’s why the Road was filled with so many cliches and tropes (down to Agatha as the Wicked Witch of the West), it was all based on Billy’s love of witch mythology. That had Billy overcome with guilt on how the witches died because of his inadvertent spell.

Billy was met by Agatha, now a ghost with white hair more closely resembling her original comic book counterpart. She had offered Billy a chance to put Tommy’s spirit into a teen who was drowning, but Billy couldn’t kill someone else. The two argued and Billy tried to banish Agatha, who confessed the reason she’d been putting off Death for so long was that she couldn’t bear to see her son again.

That swayed Billy to allow the ghostly Agatha to be his guide and they left together to try and find Tommy’s spirit. As comic book fans know, Tommy turns into the super-speedster Speed, and he and Billy become founding members of the Young Avengers team.

Marvel has been teasing the idea of the Young Avengers as The Marvels had a post-credits scene where Kamala Khan recruited Kate Bishop and suggested they find Ant-Man’s daughter Cassie as well. Finding Tommy could end up being another key to the Young Avengers forming.

For the future of Agatha herself, while she is dead, it wouldn’t be that difficult for a witch as powerful and cunning as Agatha finding a way back to life. Maybe it’s even possible this “ghost” bit is just another one of her tricks to scam Billy into a way of getting more power. Don’t forget, the woman has killed hundreds of witches over the centuries to keep herself alive, she can’t truly be trusted.

For now, Marvel hasn’t announced if Agatha All Along will get a second season or not. Yet one way or another, it appears Agatha and Billy’s journey will continue and pave the way for more magical MCU adventures.
