To say that Bluey has become a pop culture sensation would be an understatement, but she's not the only cartoon canine that has captured our hearts. The entire Heeler clan has viewers around the world under their paws, but one member recently stepped out of character.
Next to figures like Mufasa and Goofy, Bandit is easily one of the most beloved and iconic animated dads of all time, and it wouldn't be wrong to suggest that he is responsible for a lot of the show's appeal. However, Bandit's voice actor (Dave McCormack), shared a very telling update regarding the show's future.
"Bandit" Shares Bluey Update
For those out of the loop, the creative team at Ludo has been on a creative hiatus after the massive wedding special. However, as producer Sam Moor told BBC, is still dead set to make a comeback. We just don't know when. Still, with over 150 episodes under its belt, it's not like there isn't plenty to watch.
While we die-hard Bluey buffs might have to sate our appetites with the Minisodes currently available on Disney+, Dave McCormack might have just let slip what's really going on at Ludo Studio. During a recent interview with Daily Mail, McCormack opened up about his time as a punk-rock musician with the band Custard, as well as his time as everyone's favorite big blue dog dad.
While it's fun to see McCormack's presence and tenure as Bandit has attracted a whole new generation of fans to hear Custard play, one detail from the interview nabbed this writer's attention from the get-go.
When asked about his return to the show, the actor/musician stated the following.
"We’ve done about 150 episodes, but they (producers) never tell me much. It’s usually just email to say, oh we’re doing this, but I’d love to do more. I’m into it..."
While brief, McCormack's desire to reprise his role as the beloved Bandit should provide some comfort for those still uncertain about the series' future. The interview also goes on to explore how much his time as Bandit has done for his band, but it's clear which role currently has the more favorable status.
It still might be some time before we have any new Bluey episodes in our future, but knowing one of its stars is ready and willing to come back is certainly a positive tell. In this writer's opinion, neither Ludo nor Disney would let one of their biggest cash cows go out after teasing its audience so much.
Dave McCormack might be "kept in the dark" about the current situation, but that doesn't mean fans like us won't speculate and keep our fingers crossed. At least we have plenty of Bluey to binge on Disney+.
Bandit, Bluey, and all their buddies in Brisbane can all be found on Disney+, Disney Junior, and ABC iView.
