If you want to spend your days watching nothing but The Simpsons then Disney has got just the place for you!
There are now two generations who have never known a world without The Simpsons. From its humble beginnings as brief cartoons on The Tracy Ullman Show in the late 1980s to the premiere of the animated show in 1990, The Simpsons isn’t just a show, it’s a cultural institution.
It’s astounding the series shows no signs of slowing down. Viewers just can’t get enough of Homer, Barge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and the rest of the strange gang in Springfield going on wild misadventures that often mock pop culture and society.
For years, The Simpsons was owned by Fox, meaning Disney couldn’t use them. They did have a presence at Universal Studios, with the Orlando park boasting the great Simpsons ride and recreated Springfield area (right down to quirky gift shops).
Disney acquired the property when it bought Fox in 2019. One of their first big moves was to put every episode of The Simpsons on Disney+. They’ve since added to it with a variety of short film specials that crossover with Star Wars and other properties.
Now, The Simpsons has another big turn as Disney announced that Disney+ will now offer a 24/7 stream of every episode in chronological order, debuting on March 18. That means you can pop onto the stream at any time to check out the 35 seasons and 367 episodes (so far) of the show.
“From day one, the fans have asked for a Stream of THE SIMPSONS, and we’re happy to oblige,” said Gabe Lewis, SVP of Programming & Content Curation, Disney+ in a statement. “Streams on Disney+ have been a fantastic go-to experience for subscribers looking to sit back and relax with their favorite shows and movies, and we look forward to evolving the user experience and expanding the offering with more Streams, to more subscribers, later this year.”
This is the latest of a few such 24/7 streamers on Disney+ that includes live feeds from ABC News and ESPN, the Hits & Heroes lineup (compelling action-packed stories from marquee brands and franchises), Throwbacks, a destination for always-on nostalgic pop culture content; and Real Life, a lineup of traditional documentaries, biopics, and true stories.
This is a big deal, however. While it can be joked that The Simpsons airs many reruns on FX and other channels, an entire streamer devoted to the show is something else. It can be fun to click on it and see which episode is playing and the fact they run chronologically rather than at random makes it easier to time when a specific episode is coming.
So if you’re a dedicated fan or a newbie, The Simpsons running nonstop matches its record run on TV to be an epic binge for Disney+ subscribers!
