As of this morning, January 20, 2025, Donald Trump will be sworn in as the nation's 47th president of the United States. While several news outlets like NBC, CNN, Fox, and all the rest are naturally expected to cover the event, we can't say we expected Disney to join.
Disney+ is the Walt Disney Company's magical streaming platform where subscribers can watch their favorite classic movies, as well as content from Star Wars, the Marvel Multiverse, and many more thanks to the Hulu merger. Now, subscribers can add watching Trump sworn in as well.
How to watch the inauguration
The U.S. Presidential Inauguration is a formal ceremony at the Capitol Building (it will be held in the rotunda this year), where the President and Vice President are sworn in, and the President delivers an inaugural address. Naturally, a national event of this size has all hands on deck for news coverage.
Accessing the live stream is as easy as logging into Disney+ and finding the icon with the president-elect's fixture. It's as easy as clicking a mouse or a remote button, but that's not all that ABC has in store.
At the time of writing, Disney+ subscribers can watch ABC News' live event coverage from Washington D.C. Per the coverage, ABC will also be running a special on Inauguration Night and what Trump's first acts as the 47th president will be.
Disney+ streaming the event with ABC (a Disney-owned news network) also feels strange due to the controversy sparked by the defamation lawsuit from Trump. Then again, a $15 million donation to his presidential library is sure to soften the blow.
After a dramatic and contentious election season, President Trump will officially be sworn in as of noon today, and many Americans are waiting with much anticipation for the incoming administration. While this isn't the first major event the service has streamed, few have been quite as historic.
Are you tuning in for the event? Disney+ has you covered.
