If you’ve ever dreamed of walking through the gates of Disneyland park and stepping into a world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy, you’re not alone. For so many fans, that first stroll past the entrance is a rite of passage. But now, Disney’s making it easier, smoother, and more high-tech than ever to get into The Happiest Place on Earth, and yes, you’ll want to know these updates before your next visit.
Say Goodbye to the Old Turnstiles
Gone are the clunky, old-school turnstiles that used to greet guests at the entrances to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. In their place? Sleek, modernized entry gates that feel straight out of Tomorrowland. Located in the Esplanade between both parks, these new gates are faster, more accessible, and even include a little Disney magic with every visit.
And if you’re staying on-property or planning a monorail arrival, there is good news! You can skip the main entrance altogether. Select guests with valid tickets or Magic Key passes and park reservations can enter through three alternate entry points.
According to Disney Parks Blog, the first is located at Disneyland Monorail from Downtown Disney, which drops you right into Tomorrowland. The second can be found at the Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa entrance, located near Grizzly Peak in California Adventure. Lastly, the Pixar Place Hotel entrance, which opens 30 minutes before park opening until noon, near Goofy’s Sky School.
How to Use the New Gates
Once you’re ready to start your Disney day, head to your chosen entrance. First, scan your ticket or MagicBand+ at the touchpoint screen. Then, snap your photo using the built-in camera. Don’t worry, these cameras automatically adjust to your height, making it easy for guests of all sizes. Lastly, enter the park! The gates swing open automatically once your ticket is linked to your photo.
And yes, the entire process is ADA compliant, meaning guests using wheelchairs, strollers, or ECVs can enter without a hitch.
What’s the Experience Like?
Picture this: It’s rope drop, and you’re racing toward Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance or headed to snag that iconic Jolly Holiday Bakery croissant. With this new process, you’ll be in and moving faster than ever. Plus, if you’re a Magic Key holder or using a multi-day ticket, you only need to take your photo once, so returning is a breeze.
Don’t stress if you’re unsure how it all works. A friendly cast member will always be nearby to help, ensuring even the most tech-challenged guests make it through without breaking a sweat.
More Than Just Entry, It’s an Experience
What’s Disney without a little pixie dust? Each gate now features animated greetings from fan-favorite characters. At Disneyland, Mickey Mouse welcomes you with his signature cheer, while Oswald the Lucky Rabbit holds things down over at California Adventure.
And when it’s time to head home for a mid-day break, or return later for a fireworks finale or Paint the Night, the re-entry process is just as easy. As long as you’ve got a valid ticket and park reservation, just scan and stroll right back in.
Don’t Forget the App
Your Disneyland app is more helpful than ever. You can link your tickets, access park maps, check ride wait times, mobile order food, and even scan your way into the parks. Just open the app, tap the menu, and head to “My Tickets and Passes” to get started.
With these tech-savvy updates, entering Disneyland and California Adventure has never been easier or more magical. Whether it’s your first trip or your 50th, you’ll still get that rush walking through the gates, only now, you’ll be doing it faster, smoother, and with a character waving hello as you step into the magic.
