As the live remake of Lilo & Stitch is set to premiere on May 23, viewers may want to watch the original 2002 film. The trailer for live action remake gave viewers a glimpse on what to expect in the film that has a run time of 148 minutes.
However, did you know there is a Lilo & Stitch: The Series that Disney Channel created? This show was running from 2003-2006 and has 65 episodes. The show itself was a TV sequel to the 2002 movie Lilo & Stitch.
Viewers should also watch the 2003 film Stitch! The Movie before watching Lilo & Stitch: The Series as the film serves as a prequel to the series. In Stitch! The Movie introduces Dr. Jacques von Hamsterviel, Jumba's old partner at the lab, who wishes to use the other experiments for evil intentions.
Jumba has put over 600 of the experiemnts in dehydrated pod form, which activates on contact with water. As part of the climactic battle, the vessel is spilled, and the pods are released on Kauai. This then transitions into the series, as Lilo and Stitch find all of the experiments and help to discover where they belong.
A sequel unrelated to the series, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, was also launched in August 2005. With the new series and various films, there is no denying that Stitch won over the hearts of its fan base with its new apparel.
In Lilo & Stitch: The Series, the gang has to capture each experiment and teach it the meaning of ohana so that it will receive a good home, where it belongs and where it can use its special abilities for the good of the community.
With Nani still off working to support them all, Jumba and Pleakley now share Lilo's former bedroom, and Lilo and Stitch now live in the round tower that was added to the house at the end of the first film.
In the show, viewers get to see more of Lilo's everyday life, showing more of her everyday routine and how she keeps herself occupied. In Lilo & Stitch: The Series, each experiment had a unique power — like Experiment 606, who created black holes; Experiment 177, who ate hair; and Experiment 303, who could induce amnesia.
Experiment 625, known as Reuben, possesses all of Stitch's powers and abilities but does not utilize them because he is more tame and would much rather make sandwiches. Gantu turns to Dr. Hamsterviel in a bid to seek revenge on Stitch and his family, though threats from him sound less intimidating. Watchers also get to witness some scenes where the crew unite.
Co-creator Chris Sanders provides the voice of Stitch, and Daveigh Chase reprises the role of Lilo, sounding the same as she did in the original film, despite the time that has passed since its initial release and her own adolescence in real life.
Tia Carrere continues in the role of Nani, and David Ogden Stiers continues as Jumba. Kevin McDonald continues to play Pleakley, and Kevin Michael Richardson does it again as Captain Gantu. The new characters bring in new voice actors such as Jeff Bennett playing the Dr. Hamsterviel and Rob Paulsen is also added to the cast, providing the voice of Reuben.
Myrtle and David are the only exceptions who had new voices from the movie too the tv series. In the show, Lilo's classmates, like Myrtle, are even meaner to her than in the film, which allows us to witness the humorous methods she uses to get back at them.
All in all, Experiment 626 might have begunlife as a disaster, but ultimately, he became one of the most belovedbeings to learn the true spirit of what ohana is. As more Disney remakes like Freakier Friday and Tangled are made, it is important to understand its origin.
