The new trailer for Freakier Friday not only brings back the characters of the beloved Disney hit but also a surprise reunion with another Lindsay Lohan Disney favorite!
One of the biggest Disney movies coming this summer is Freakier Friday. It's the long-awaited sequel to Freaky Friday, the 2003 hit that was one of the best adaptations of the popular novel. The plotline follows teenager Anna (Lindsay Lohan) and her mother Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), who swap bodies.
The pair have to live each other's lives before they can break the spell and slowly learn more about each other along the way. The movie was a huge hit and continues to be a favorite. At last, Lohan and Curtis have come back for a sequel with a neat twist revealed in the new trailer!
The twist of Freakier Friday is revealed
The newly released trailer sets up more of the storyline as a now-grown Anna is engaged to Eric (Manny Jacinto). The trailer shows Anna with her own daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and Eric's daughter Lily (Sophia Hammons) attending a bachelorette party, with Anna trying to get the girls used to each other.
A psychic touches on Anna and Tess' older body swap with them leaving. The next morning, they wake up with Anna and Harper in each other's bodies while Tess has swapped with Lilly.
The new trailer reveals the story twist. Anna and Tess want to keep things going by living the lives of Harper and Lily. However, Harper and Lily have an ulterior motive, as they don't want their parents to get married. So they're going to use their new bodies to break up Anna and Eric, which involves Anna's old boyfriend Jake (Chad Michael Murray).
The trailer hints at a lot of fun, including Lily in Curtis' body dressing up in a photoshoot and the comedy of the teens in adult bodies. That should be a great romp, but we also get more of an old face familiar to Lohan fans!
How is Elaine Hendrix in Freakier Friday?
The trailer gives us more of Elaine Hendrix as a stylist for a pop star Anna is managing. Hendrix, of course, starred opposite Lohan in her breakout role in 1998's The Parent Trap. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Hendrix shared the pair had fallen out of contact until a 2020 video chat about Freaky Friday that sparked the talk of a sequel. They've built up a relationship since and always wanted to work together again.
"I was like, girl, you know I'll show up for you to do anything. I got to physically see her, and we spent a lot of time together on set, hanging out, reminiscing, and catching up. Now, we're better about staying in touch with one another."
Hendrix's role appears to be just a brief cameo, yet the actress looks to be having a fun time with it. There's likely going to be some joke about the Parent Trap worked in as Hendrix runs the fashion show, which involves Lily in Tess' body showing off.
One has to wonder if Freakier Friday is a hit, just maybe Disney decides a Parent Trap sequel could be in the cards. As it is, it's great to know this film will reunite Lohan with two of her best co-stars to make this film a bigger joy for fans!
