15 Disney/Marvel Comics crossovers we'd love to see
Disney and Marvel Comics fans are still reacting to the wild news that an upcoming comic will have Donald Duck transformed into Wolverine. It's the first major crossover since Disney bought Marvel in 2009, and it is already making fans wonder about whether others could follow suit. Given the wide range of characters on both sides, the potential is fantastic, with some pairings making total sense while others can be offbeat but promising.
Marvel Comics is a bit different from the MCU with their storylines and characters which can make Disney team-ups different. It's fun to think about how some of these characters can match up as these 15 teamings of Marvel and Disney could be a great romp for fans.
Sorcerer Mickey and Doctor Strange
There are so many great characters that Disney's biggest icon can cross over with. But somehow, someway, this just works. Fantasia gave Mickey a nice makeover in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," with the red robe and blue hat becoming part of the character and used by Disney in marketing.
So pairing him up with the Sorcerer Supreme just clicks. It can be Strange giving Mickey some advice on how to handle his powers, while Mickey surprises Strange with how good he really is. It's an offbeat idea, but of all the potential Mickey crossovers, this one is the most promising.
Fantastic Four and the Incredibles
This is a no-brainer. So many Fantastic Four fans have said that The Incredibles was a better FF movie than any of Fantastic Four films. Indeed, it's obvious how The Incredibles bases itself on Marvel's First Family so a clash between them is natural. Mr. Fantastic vs Elasti-Girl, Mr. Incredible vs the Thing, Violet vs Invisible Woman and Dash vs the Human Torch are natural fights.
Yet it'd be better for them to come together and realize how much they have in common. The FF are always a family first and while they're out with their identities, they can relate to the Incredibles keeping theirs secret. It'd be the most obvious crossover imaginable and so should be done more than others.
Hercules and Thor
Thor: Love & Thunder ended with a stinger setting up Hercules in the MCU. So it shouldn't be a surprise that a comic book crossover between the Disney Hercules and Thor is a good idea. It can play on the rivalry the pair might have and obviously a clash of styles with Hercules more laid back as Thor tries to fight him.
A question is whether Hercules is worthy of wielding Mjolnir, which would be an intriguing twist. Throw in Hades causing some problems and this clash of the demigods could be as fun as the Ragnarok movie.
Iron Man and Tron
There are a few technological-themed Disney characters for Tony Stark to meet up with. Yet somehow, Disney's 1982 flop turned cult classic seems the best bet with the nice setup. Putting Tony Stark into a computer world would be terrific, with him trying to adapt his genius to this strange land and take on the evil programs.
Seeing Tony whip together a version of his Iron Man armor with the Game Grid's tech would be inventive for artists and allow him to flaunt himself more. It's a great setup as even out of the human realm, Iron Man can be a terrific force with his technology.
Frozen and the Scarlet Witch
It may sound strange at first but these two have a lot in common. Both fighting to control their strange powers, both suffering losses and both making the mistake of cutting themselves off from the world and those trying to help them. If anything, the pair would bond a bit over their issues and help each other.
The regular Marvel Comics Scarlet Witch hasn't gone as full evil so would be more open to aiding Elsa in some adventure. There's also Anna and Vision giving their input and helping both ladies realize how much they really have to offer. It would be an intriguing teaming for the characters more than any super-heroics.
Robin Hood and Hawkeye
Disney's Robin Hood may be sometimes overlooked, but it remains a fun take on the classic mythos. So we get one of the "no-brainer" teamings of Robin and Hawkeye. Sure, Merida of Brave is a candidate, too, but somehow, these two might connect better for the adventuring sides.
Seeing them compete to fire off arrows would be fun, as would Kate and Clint's confusion at a talking fox being such a fantastic archer. A great artist would have fun with the flying arrows and the banter between the pair while giving Disney's Robin Hood a great showcase working with Marvel's own counterpart.
Maleficent and Loki
This can be a bit tricky as the original animated Maleficent is of course pure evil. But if we're going for the Angelina Jolie live-action version then having her meeting Loiki would be intriguing. Neither is good, yet neither is purely evil, and one would find common ground being outcasts.
Loki could try to enlist Maleficent in a scheme and their mutual powers and abilities would make them a very formidable pair. It's also funny to imagine just the banter between them with mutual mocking and trying to one-up themselves. Whatever versions are used would make this a fun teaming of villains.
The Little Mermaid and Namor
This is another no-brainer of a teaming and would be hilarious on multiple levels. Ariel is known for her good humor and being bright and chipper while Namor…well, decidedly is not. Being undersea residents makes a meeting a natural with Ariel, no doubt, soon driving Namor crazy with her cheerful demeanor while he's trying to fight some enemy.
The underwater scenes would be fun in the artwork but the real joy is seeing Ariel trying to wear down Namor's ego and pride. There's plenty of undersea threats for them to handle and throwing in Ariel's friends would be good too. Just seeing the classic Disney Princess meeting the Avenging Son would be a swimmingly good time.
Stitch and the Guardians of the Galaxy
The Guardians of the Galaxy have always been a bizarre collection of cosmic misfits and outright idiots. So what better team for Stitch to join? The wild alien is a fun character with his mischievous ways and so having one of his misadventures meeting the Guardians makes sense.
Stitch and Rocket are the likely most common pairing while it'd be good to see Stitch bouncing off the rest of the Guardians. It'd also be funny if Lilo is somehow dragged along for the ride while Stitch hanging with these space nuts would make for a crossover as wild as any GOTG adventure.
The Hulk and Monsters Inc
The Hulk has ever been the huge outcast of the Marvel Universe, always hunted and never fitting in anywhere. Which is why Monsteropolis is the perfect place for him. The Hulk could at last be in a land where no one gives the green-skinned behemoth a second glance and won't judge him. If anything, he'd be in more trouble turning into plain old Bruce Banner.
Mike and Sully would be his unlikely guides into this world with the Hulk making the occasional burst of rage but for the most part feeling calmer than he's ever been. He couldn't stay yet this has real potential in giving the Hulk a rare dose of good news finding a place where he's finally accepted rather than feared.
Kim Possible and Black Widow
Kim Possible has been quieter for Disney lately but still has a huge generation of fans who love the teenage superspy. So a team-up with Marvel's master superspy is a natural. Natasha might actually enjoy being around Kim with her fun presence and given all the weird stuff she's seen over the years, she'd put up with a high schooler, her goofball friend and their pet mole rat.
It's logical they face Kim's old foe Dr. Drakken paired with some Marvel villains for action hijinks. Kim and Natasha's bonding with Natasha as the mentor figure would be key to a spy romp that likely would be better than the Black Widow movie.
Spider-Man and Big Hero 6
There are a lot of potential Disney crossovers for Marvel's premiere hero, so narrowing it down is tricky. Big Hero 6 is the best bet, given they're the most obvious super-hero characters in the Disney roster, and Spidey has long had a history for offbeat team-ups. The fact Stan Lee had a nice role in Big Hero 6 only adds to it.
Putting Spidey in the role of a mentor figure for the team would be intriguing, yet his banter and wisecracks with the heroes would be the key to making the story work. It would be a bright and vibrant adventure as seeing Spidey swinging around the buildings of San Fransokyo would be delightful.
Buzz Lightyear and Woody with Captain America
The obvious connection here is how Chris Evans voiced the title characters in the LIghtyear movie. Yet oddly, the Toy Story heroes both have a lot in common with Cap. Buzz is a classic hero who keeps a code of honor and boasting of his greatness. Woody has a wonderful drive and goes out of his way to help those around him while seeing the best in people.
Both would appeal to Steve Rogers, who maintains a sense of fair play with his heroics. It's also fun to imagine the two toys hanging onto Cap's shield as it's tossed out and landing some blows. It's a bit tricky to imagine how the two toys can interact with Cap, but if done right, it could be a surprisingly fun crossover tale.
The Marvels and Disney Princesses
One of the best parts of The Marvels was Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan heading to a planet where everyone burst into song and Carol was treated as a princess, which she hated. So imagine the trio's reaction when they met the classic Disney princesses: Snow White, Belle, Aurora, and the rest.
There's an obvious clash of styles, although the Princesses would enjoy the "magic" the Marvels use. They might also get along with Mulan, more of a warrior than the others and toughen the gals up. It's an offbeat team-up, but Ralph Breaks the Internet showed how heroic the Princesses are and let the Marvels have more fun.
Goofy and Doctor Doom
Okay, every one of these crossovers needs one majorly nutty entry. And what's nuttier than Disney's loveable bungler meeting Marvel's greatest villain? Given his history of odd jobs, it makes a strange sense Goofy lands a gig for the lord of Latveria and soon pulled into his mischief.
The comedy is in Goofy not getting he's working for a dictator trying to conquer the world and Doom mistaking his bumbling for heroics. Just watching Goofy drive Doom up the wall is comedy gold and could make this an unsung gem of comic book crossovers.
