Marvel's Deadpool & Wolverine is shaping up to be one of this year's most exciting superhero blockbusters. While Marvel Studios has been in a bit of a rut lately, the third installment in the Merc with a Mouth's franchise has generated record-breaking hype.

As if finally seeing Wade Wilson square off against
(or maybe team-up with?) Wolverine wasn't enough to get you to theaters, how about the appearance of a former DC Universe actor in the film?

Rumors are spreading across the internet that Henry Cavill will be making an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. According to the reports, Cavill will be playing a variant of Wolverine in the film, something that feels like a bit of a waste for such a talented actor unless Marvel has larger plans for him.

Cavill is one of the biggest names in Hollywood, having appeared in multiple blockbuster films. He's best known for playing one of the best versions of Superman we've seen on the big screen, a role that was unfortunately cut too short due to Warner Bros.' inability to establish its own successful DC Universe.

Could Henry Cavill be the MCU's new permanent Wolverine?

What if Cavill's role is more than just a cameo? Deadpool & Wolverine will almost certainly be Hugh Jackman's final time playing the adamantium-clawed mutant, and we know the movie will be introducing Earth 616's Wolverine. Is it possible that Cavill could fill in as the new Logan for the MCU's reboot of the X-Men franchise?

We don't know for certain, but semi-reliable insider @CanWeGetToast did seem to suggest Cavill's appearance could be more than a simple cameo. "Fans will be very pleased with his appearance," the insider teased on social media.

This could suggest that Cavill's portrayal of Wolverine could result in something more than a throwaway cameo. After all, it would seem like such a waste to cast Cavill in one of the MCU's most significant role's down the line only as a simple variant in Deadpool & Wolverine. Think of the excitement they could generate for the future X-Men movies by confirming that Cavill will be the MCU's new permanent Logan.
