Disney has just unveiled the first look at Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and it looks like a fun new take on the mythos!

Star Wars has been rising majorly in output since Disney bought it in 2012. We've had a new trilogy and spin-off movies while Disney+ is the home for several shows like The Mandalorian, Ashoka, Obi-Wan, Andor and the recent The Acolyte.

Given the wide history of Stars Wars, there's so much potential for great new tales and now we're getting a new one in Skeleton Crew. Created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, the series hasn't detailed just when it falls in the Star Wars timeline but will focus on four children: Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), KB (Kyriana Kratter), Neel (Robert Timothy Smith) and Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) living on an alien planet who somehow become lost in the galaxy.

The big star is Jude Law, who plays Jod Na Nawood, a Force-user with a mysterious past who becomes the children's protector and mentor. He's joined by SM 33, a cantankerous droid voiced by comedian Nick Frost.

While the show has been in production for a while, People Magazine broke the first images along with Law himself sharing insight, telling them the "first word that comes to my mind" when describing the series is "joyful." He added that there would be a lot of great touches that Star Wars fans would appreciate.

"It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars. And there are great references to old films and recent episodes and series. There's a lot of originality and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it. If you look carefully, [we] got some Star Wars tech that dates right back, I believe, to the original film. They do [easter eggs] so well. That's one of the joys I think of this universe for those who know there are these little details always hidden away or Easter eggs that people can find and link up.""

The plot details are tight for now, but the show does have images with the kids using speeder bikes and visiting alien worlds. Watts added that even non-Star Wars fans can enjoy it.

"You don't have to know everything about Star Wars to enjoy the show. You can come into it completely fresh and enjoy the story. But if you do happen to be a Star Wars super fan, there's a lot for you. "

The show does seem to have a vibe for younger audiences with the cast, and Andor proved that a show without deeper connections to the overall mythology can work. There are still more details to come, but the first look indicates Skeleton Crew can be another fun Star Wars series when it debuts later this year.
