One of the top movies of early spring 2024 will be riding onto the small screen sooner than expected, but Disney fans will be disappointed. The film will not debut on Disney Plus.
According to reports, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will make its home debut on August 2nd, on Hulu. For those subscribers who have the Disney Plus bundle, it won't be a huge deal. For the rest of us, we have to wait for the digital release later in the month.
Planet has made $376 million globally since its theatrical debut. It isn't great, but it was a good run for a film rebooting the franchise. Reviewers were positive, and it should get a good run on Hulu and be a popular digital rental once it arrives.
Currently, those who want to see the movie don't have to wait until August 2nd. Digital platforms such as Fandango Now, Apple TV, and others already have the film available to purchase for $19.99. The film is not yet available to rent. Hard copy purchases will come later when the film is released on Blu-Ray.
Starring Owen Teague, Freya Allen, and Kevin Durand, the film is directed by Wes Ball and takes place generations after Caesar's death from the first series of reboots that showcased humanity's rise and fall to the apes.
The series was well-enough received that a future order is expected for at least three more films in this new series that will continue the storyline. Eventually, we may get to where the original films took us, a planet dominated by apes, humans hunted, and Charlton Heston marooned.
