Could a big Oscar nominee be taking over the role of Kang in the MCU? Colman Domingo addressed the rumors himself! Find out more here!

When Phase 5 of the MCU began in 2023, it was meant to revolve around Kang the Conqueror. This time-traveling villain has been a major Marvel baddie for decades and using him made sense. It was set up in Loki and then Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which ended with an entire multiverse of Kangs ready to attack Earth.

This was meant to lead to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Casting Jonathan Majors in the role seemed a coup with the actor's career on the rise. But then Majors was arrested on charges of domestic violence and assault on his girlfriend. He was convicted, and while he's awaiting sentence, it's likely his career is pretty much over.

Marvel acted quickly by firing Majors and the big question of whether or not Kang will still be the focus for Phase 5 or if they will move away from him. The most obvious idea would be recasting the role and waving off the change as just a different variation for Kang.

There have been a lot of names mentioned with Colman Domingo among them and for good reason.

Colman Domingo on the Kang rumors

Starting as a Tony-award-winning Broadway actor, Colman Domingo moved on to playing Victor Strand in Fear the Walking Dead. He also added an Emmy award for his turn on the HBO series Euphoria

Right now, Domingo is riding high, scoring a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his role in the drama Rustin. Given his great work and rising stardom, casting him as Kang would be a good replacement.

Speaking to Vanity Fair's annual Oscar Issue, Domingo directly addressed the rumors and how folks have wondered if he would join the MCU.

""It's funny how people are online talking about this. And the moment it started happening, literally, I think I was on my couch. And I was like, 'What rumor? Who? Where's this coming from?' I just didn't think about it. The next day I woke up, it's everywhere.""

Domingo said that while he hadn't been approached yet, he would love to join the MCU in some aspect.

""My team has had conversations with Marvel about some aspect of the MCU for years. Do I know this to be true or not? I actually don't know. I feel like my team doesn't bring me something unless it's real. So I don't know. I could be in conversation, but I'm not sure. I would welcome a conversation around it. Whatever they're working out with Jonathan [Majors] and his legacy in the MCU, I feel like I just have to be in my own lane, whatever that is. There's hearsay, there's conversations, but I'm not even sure because I feel like nothing comes to me until something's real. But I'd be down with it.""

Domingo could pull off the role of Kang, nailing the character's desire to rule and belief he's in the right. He has a great charisma for the part and the fact he's a multiple award-winning star is a point in his favor. His Dead role shows he has the action goods too and is open to big-budget fare.

Right now, it's up in the air if Marvel is even going to use Kang because of all the baggage with Majors. Yet Domingo seems more than open to taking over or being part of the MCU in some way and hopefully finds his way to a project for Marvel to add to his amazing resume.
