The emotions are back as Disney has unveiled the first trailer for Inside Out 2. But not only is there a new face among them, but some new voices as well! Here’s the scoop!

Pixar has been having a rough time in the last few years. Soul, Luca and Turning Red were all banished to Disney+ while Lightyear was a flop. Elemental had a rough start only to turn into a sleeper success.

So Disney is going back to familiar properties with Inside Out 2. The 2016 original focused on the main emotions of a young girl led by Joy. The key to the movie was that Joy was unable to accept Riley could feel Sadness and her attempts to keep Riley forever happy almost caused disaster.

The movie was a huge hit and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. So, a follow-up is obvious and addresses some big changes.

Inside Out 2 has a new emotion

The trailer has the Emotions thrown when a crew suddenly comes in to transform their entire control center. The idea appears to be that now that Riley is becoming a teenager, which means new emotions.

That includes Anxiety, and her words on “we” indicate there are more coming. It’s likely that Joy will once more be trying to maintain control only to have to accept Riley can’t be a kid anymore.

The new voices in Inside Out 2

Usually, a Pixar sequel has the entire original cast returning, but Inside Out 2 is different. Amy Pohler is back as Joy, with Phyllis Smith as Sadness and Lewis Black as Anger. However, Bill Hader (Fear) and Mindy Kaling (Disgust) won’t be back as it seems Disney made them a far lower money offer than Pohler. They’re replaced by Tony Hale (Veep) and Liza Lapira, respectively.

Joining up is Maya Hawke of Stranger Things as Anxiety. It’s likely there will be a few more actors popping up as the creators hint there are going to be a lot more emotions around.

Thanks to the SAG strike settled, the movie should be able to make its debut on June 14, 2024. This looks like a good return to form by Pixar as a follow-up to one of their best films should spark Disney’s box office in the coming year.

Inside Out 2 premieres June 14, 2024.
