The first full trailer for Inside Out 2 promises a war of emotions! See the look at the sequel to the Pixar hit!

Pixar has been having a bit of a rough time in the last few years. It started with Onward, whose 2020 theatrical release was cut short by the pandemic. Then Soul, Luca, and Turning Red were all banished to Disney+ releases (despite Soul winning an Oscar). Lightyear was released theatrically, only to become Pixar’s first outright flop.

Elemental is an interesting case as it had a bad opening in 2023 but managed to find legs at the box office, grossing almost $500 million worldwide. Still, with Disney’s box office fortunes low, Pixar needs to step up, which is why a sequel to one of their biggest hits makes sense.

Released in 2015, Inside Out showed the inner workings of young Riley and how her emotions were avatars. Joy was determined to always keep Riley happy, which almost caused disaster before she accepted Riley had to feel other emotions.

The movie was a huge box office success and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. There’s been talk of a sequel and after a teaser trailer last year, the first full one has hit.

What’s happening in Inside Out 2?

The sequel opens as Riley hits her teenage years and Joy (Amy Pohler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale) and Disgust (Liza Lapira) are preparing Riley for high school. They’re thrown to discover that with this new age comes a pack of new emotions moving in: Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser).

However, Anxiety comes to believe Riley needs a new attitude, such as giving up her old friendships and changing who she is. When Joy argues against that, she and the other emotions are (literally) bottled away. They have to escape and get back to the control room before the new emotions ruin Riley for good.

The trailer shows some great showcases of Riley’s mindscape, the fun banter of the emotions and other touches such as a look at the emotions inside Riley’s mom. It appears to be a wonderful return to form for Pixar, a spin on the beloved original and the boost in the brand’s fortunes that can help it,and Disney, in 2024.

Inside Out 2 premieres in theaters on June 14.
