The Marvels is finally coming to Disney+ and you don't have to wait long
Disney has finally set a date on when The Marvels premieres on Disney+. Find out when you can check out the latest MCU movie!
It’s no secret that 2023 has not been a good one for Marvel. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was a box office disappointment, while Secret Invasion was derided by fans and critics. True, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 was a hit, and Loki Season 2 got good reviews, but the once-unstoppable MCU seemed to be hitting a roadblock.
Then came The Marvels. On paper, this movie looked terrific, with Brie Larson reprising her role as Carol Danvers, teaming up with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parrish) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) on a grand adventure. The post-credits scene also seemed to set up the introduction of the X-Men into the MCU.
But the film sadly broke a new milestone by becoming the MCU’s first outright box office bomb. Budgeted at a reported $274 million, the movie made just over $200 million worldwide. Whether because of the cast unable to promote it due to strikes or superhero movie fatigue, the film didn’t connect with audiences.
So Disney is hoping its coming home release might salvage The Marvels’ reputation for fans. So when can you see it?
The Marvels’ release date revealed
While already available on video-on-demand spots, The Marvels will officially stream on Disney+ on February 7. It then releases on Blu-Ray and 4K on Tuesday February 13.
The Blu-Ray will have extras such as an audio commentary from writer/director Nia DaCosta, featurettes on the making of the film (including the first Marvel musical number), deleted scenes and more.
While not announced yet, it’s probable Disney+ will also have a Marvel Studios Assembled special on the making of the film. So, for those who skipped it in theaters, the Disney+ release may be a second chance for The Marvels to find its audience and show the MCU still has some good spark to it.
The Marvels premieres on Disney+ Wednesday February 7.
