The witch is back, as Marvel and Disney have released the first trailer for Agatha All Along! Check out the return of Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness!

Marvel’s first MCU series, WandaVision, was focused on Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), who, following the events of Avengers: Endgame, had used her powers to transform the town of Westview into a world like classic TV shows. She lived with a resurrected Vision (Paul Bettany) in a world where they even had twin sons.

Among the residents caught in Wanda’s world was seemingly quiet neighbor Agnes (Kathryn Hahn). In a huge twist, Agnes turned out to be Agatha Harkness, a centuries-old witch manipulating Wanda to gain her own power.

The show ended with Wanda defeating Agatha and punishing her by warping her memories to believe she was Agnes. Wanda’s story continued in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness as she was driven mad trying to recover that fantasy life and eventually perished.

An Agatha spin-off was ordered for Disney+ with some name changes as it went from Agatha: House of Harkness to Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Agatha: The Darkhold Diaries. It finally settled on Agatha All Along, playing on the now-iconic song revealing Agatha as the mastermind.

The show was delayed by the 2023 Hollywood strikes but now set to go and even though the MCU has taken a hit in the last year, the first trailer promises some major fun!

The show opens looking like something totally different, with Agnes as a cop investigating a murder case. She’s at the morgue when she’s met by Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), who encourages Agatha to remember who she is. With Wanda dead, Agatha regains her memories and is now out to take back her power.

The trailer hints at the dark antics as Agatha goes on a quest for power, hooking up with other witches, including Lilia Calderu, a 450-year-old Sicilian witch played by Broadway icon Patti LuPone. The trailer shows Lilia asking, “What witch in her right mind would join you?” and Agatha snarking back, “I’m not looking for right-minded witches.”

The rest of the cast includes names familiar to Marvel Comics fans, like Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata) and Joe Locke as Billy Caplan, who was actually the name of Wanda’s son who became the magic hero Wiccan. The show looks darker than other MCU fare, which fits as it’s about Agatha trying to regain her power and not caring who she hurts to get it. Yet, it also seems to retain the sharp humor of Hahn’s great performance.

The show is set to drop its first two episodes on September 18 and with Hahn’s always stellar performance mixed with stars like Plaza and LuPone and exploring the magical side of the MCU, this may get the franchise back on track on Disney+.
