How Disney can be inspired to be bigger

First of all, keep in mind that Disney and Universal tend to cater to different audiences. Disney is more for classic families while Universal leans nowadays for older guests with so many thrill rides. Disney World is also meant for longer visits as Epic Universe is Universal's bid for guests to stay on property longer.

So Disney's goal shouldn't be to try and ape Universal. Rather, they should do as they've done in the past, be inspired by this challenger to spark up their own product. While things like adjusting prices and improving their Lightning Lane stuff would be a help, bringing folks in with better attractions is also a must.

Sure, there's attention for the new Tiana's Bayou Adventure, but nothing like how it is when Disney produces something flashy like Galaxy's Edge. Disney needs to get really creative in every way, using some properties with compelling ride designs and, most importantly, putting real money into them.

Overseas, Disney parks are striking nicely with the Zootopia and World of Frozen lands, both acclaimed for creating the worlds of those hit movies. The planned Disneyland expansion can bring versions of those over yet Disney World has so much space it can use, if not for a fifth park, then at least some expansions to what's already there. See how the Tron Lightcycle Run is great for Magic Kingdom. Bringing in the Frozen or Zootopia experiences for Disney World in some way can be a fantastic addition to the parks.

There's also the fact that more tourism in Orlando is a great thing for the industry. Disney could certainly use that yet can also take advantage of the new push by Universal to spark their own creativity. Bob Iger has talked of investing billions in the theme park developments and there's still so much land in WDW yet to be used. Disney needs to finally pull the trigger on some projects that may be costly but also promise some fantastic experiences guests can't get enough of.

There are signs of this such as the announcement of a new section of Animal Kingdom based on Encanto and Indiana Jones. There's the chance of more Marvel stuff to be used as well and Disney has to plan to bring some of those international park attractions to the U.S. They have all the ingredients needed to keep going, they just got complacent. After the last few years of ups and downs, Disney can see Epic Universe as inspiration to take more chances and provide guests with some terrific new rides.

Competition is often good in entertainment and Disney and Universal have shown how their attempts to one-up each other have created some genius theme park attractions. Thus, Epic Universe can be Disney's impetus to respark their own theme park glory and a rebirth of their old ways to bring back so much guest love.
