Disneyland guests got a surprise treat with an unexpected performance from one of the most famous Disney princess voices!
One of the many benefits of voicing a Disney character is often overlooked. Once you've done it, you're basically given a lifetime pass to any Disney park you want. Many stars have embraced that, especially in Disneyland ,as California is home to so many actors.
Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel in The Little Mermaid, has made regular Disney visits over the years, as well as taking part in concerts singing songs from the film. Other ladies have joined her, but on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, Disneyland guests got an impromptu concert they didn't expect!
Who was performing at Disneyland?
Susan Egan has two big connections to Disney. In 1994, she originated the role of Belle in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, helping make the show a long-running hit.
In 1997, Egan took on her more famous role of Meg, the anti-heroine of the animated Hercules. The character was a departure from classic Disney princesses, filled with snark and a sardonic attitude.
Meg's backstory was that she sold her soul to Hades to save her dying love, only for the guy to dump her. That soured her on love as she agreed to seduce Hercules for Hades only to fall for him.
Egan has been a popular face for Disney fans as she regularly sings the movie's best song "I Won't Say I'm in Love." She was a guest at Disneyland's "Nite at the '90s" special event with the 55-year old actress doing songs at the Golden Horseshoe cafe.
After a rendition of Britney Spears, Egan bowed to the demand of fans and sang a karaoke version of "I Won't Say I'm in Love." Thankfully, some insanely lucky guests were able to catch video of it to spread it around.
Disney confirmed to Entertainment Weekly this "amazing" moment wasn't at all planned, it was just Egan having some fun. The actress added her own side to EW as well.
"The Disney '90s Nite was hilarious fun! I was there at the invitation of Disney, along with my 'Goofy' pal Bill Farmer — just to enjoy the festivities and soak it all in. The karaoke moment wasn't planned at all, but we were having a blast at the event. Folks around me asked if I wanted to participate — sing any of my go-to karaoke tunes — and well … my go-to is 'I Won't Say' — LOL. I love how the song is structured as an 'argument' between Meg and the Muses, so really it's an opportunity to sing WITH everyone. It's not a solo … it's a give and take, and I have to say, it was particularly fun to sing it with that beautiful, '90s-celebrating crowd — they sounded amazing!!"
Egan's words are notable in the song truly working better with a crowd as the muses rather than just Egan alone. Over 25 years later, her voice is still fantastic to sell every note just like on film.
This is one of those truly magical moments that makes a Disneyland visit so special. Had this been announced beforehand, it might have been fun and more attention. Yet it's more special given that Egan was just visiting the park and then doing the song for the audience members who were lucky enough to be there.
It's proof you never know what's going to happen when you visit a Disney park and why a trip there is so remarkable.
