We finally have a date for when you can enjoy Moana 2 at home with a big physical media release!
Much has been made about Disney seemingly backing out of the physical releases for movies game. The once-dominant way of watching a movie at home has lowered over the years with the rise of streaming services. Disney themselves discontinued their Disney Movie Club.
However, there is still an audience who will always prefer having a movie to watch at home on disc rather than rely on a streaming service with its various problems. Now, Disney has announced when Moana 2 will hit!
Per Disney and Amazon, Moana 2 comes to Blu-Ray, DVD, 4K UHD and a 4K Steelbook on March 17. It’s already set to pre-order.
The sequel to the 2016 animated hit, Moana 2 was originally intended to be an animated TV series. It was reworked into a full-length movie with reviews a bit mixed.
That didn’t stop its box office as the movie cracked $1 billion globally. That success led to Disney earning a big fourth quarter 2024 earnings post, making it a much-needed cash cow for the company.
So it’s no surprise that Disney is going all out with a physical release packed with extras.
What’s on the Moana 2 set?
For a company that seems to be backing out of physical releases, Disney is going all-out on Moana 2 with scores of extras:
- Full Length Sing-Along – Sing along with your favourite songs while watching the movie with on-screen lyrics.
- Call of the Wayfinder – Celebrate Pacific wayfinding with the Moana 2 filmmakers as they meet real-life navigators from the Polynesian Voyaging Society. Hear from Nainoa Thompson, CEO of PVS, and other crew members as they discuss the cultural renaissance of wayfinding.
- A New Voyage – Join the filmmakers and artistic leads for a deep dive as they reveal the development of this sequel and discuss the impact that the first film had across the globe. Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson talk about what it means to them to return.
- Songs of the Sea – Sit down with songwriters Abigail Barlow & Emily Bear, Pacific Islands music legend Opetaia Foa‘i, and composer Mark Mancina as they discuss making the music. Get to know this talented team as they share insight into writing each brand-new song.
- Kakamora Chronicles – Ever wanted to know more about the Kakamora? Gather ’round while Moni, everyone’s favorite Motunui historian, tells the tales from real Solomon Island folklore surrounding the mysterious and unforgettable beings known as the Kakamora.
- Fun in the Booth – Step inside the recording booth with the brilliant and talented actors of Moana 2 for some creative fun as they bring their characters to life.
- Deleted Scenes – Overall introduction to Deleted Scenes by directors David G. Derrick Jr, Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller.

There’s no word yet on when Moana 2 will come to Disney+. It’s likely by the spring but no exact date yet. Some of these extras may make their way as bonus features for the streaming release as well.
So for anyone who still prefers watching a movie on disc, Moana 2 will be a great buy to add to your Disney library this March!
